Saturday 12th October – Travelling then a little walk. Cloudy then
sunny.
Bit of a pain of a day:( It was raining when we woke up. Packed up and
left our spot by the river then drove to Castelsarrasin and visited Lidl.
Then a nightmare visit to McDonalds. The computer was doing really well,
even going fast! Then it seized up completely and we couldn’t get it to
get through the start menu at all unless you went into safe mode.
Basically that is all we can do. We can use it, even get internet but it
wont run any scans and is not working properly at all. Had our lunch where
we had it yesterday on the bikes then drove towards Toulouse, joined the
motorway and drove to a little place on the Canal du Midi called Caux et
Sauzens and we are hoping to cycle into Carcassonne again tomorrow. We did
it a few years ago from the opposite direction. We had a cuppa and I dozed
off while reading (exhausted from all the hassle and travelling!). Then we
did our exercises because couldn’t do them this morning in the rain and
the weather is better here, even saw the sun in the early evening. Went
for a walk along the canal to the next lock and beyond.
Sunday 13 October 2013 – Bike *****Caux et Sauzens to Carcassonne –
Sunny and warm
Its still chilly but nice sunny morning. We had breakfast and then set off
to cycle along the Canal du Midi tow path to Carcassonne Cite, about 8
miles away. It is a beautiful stretch of the canal, quite bendy in places
which is unusual and with some lovely locks and bridges along the way:) We
saw about 5 boats in the locks. When we got to Carcassonne we followed the
signs to the Cite – I nearly killed myself bumping into the curb while
looking at a French car boot sale!!!! We entered across the ancient bridge
over the river Aude. It is as beautiful as we remembered and this time we
paid to go around the chateau and the ramparts. Last time we came we were
too late in the day to enter. It was beautiful and really well restored.
We really enjoyed the visit and had our lunch in the vegetable garden :)
After lunch we walked round the other side of the Cite where you can’t
get to the ramparts and have to walk round the outer walls instead. Made
our way back to the bikes and back through the newer town to the Canal
basin and back along the path which on the return journey felt a lot longer
and bumpier! Had a cuppa and a rest then had another go at solving the
many problems with this lap top!!!
